Silicone Scar Sheet Care: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Silicone Scar Sheeting

Silicone Scar Sheet Care: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Silicone Scar Sheeting

Over the last 30 years, many surgeons have turned to silicone scar sheets to help their patients prevent severe scarring from their incisions. There are plenty of silicone options out there, however they weren’t all created equal.

Instead of having to replace flimsy silicone sheets day after day, we made our Scar Fx Silicone Scar Sheeting reusable, meaning one piece is durable enough for at least a month of use— so long as you know how to take care of it.

Here’s out top tips for taking care of silicone scar sheeting!

#1: Clean your sheeting daily

An essential part of caring for your sheeting is to clean it! Be sure to use a non-concentrated soap (aka the soap is more water than cleaning agent) and lukewarm water while washing each sheet. The best way is to apply the soap and then gently rub any debris off with your fingers while you rinse it.

Things To Avoid In Your Sheet-Cleaning-Soap:
Moisturizers
Strong Detergents
Added Fragrances

#2: Dry before re-application

Applying your silicone scar sheet while it is damp can interfere with its ability to adhere to the skin and form a seamless layer over the scar. The easiest way to make sure this doesn't happen is to leave the sheeting out to dry and storing it in a resealable plastic bag when it is not in use.

#3: Only use on a clear surface area

The sheeting should be in direct contact with your skin— no lotions or creams in between! Therefore, when it's time to apply your silicone scar sheeting, make sure you're working with a freshly washed, clean surface area, free of any dirt, grime, sweat, and lotions that could interfere with the barrier and the tackiness.

#4: Give it an extra clean

Although you should definitely be washing your silicone sheets at least once a week, there are a few times you may need to wash it a bit extra— such as when you're more prone to sweatiness. Whether it's because of hot weather or you're working out, during these times, we recommend you clean the sheeting more frequently in order to maximize contact between the material and skin.

#5: Use tape if necessary

Over time, you may find your silicone scar sheets sticking less and less on their own, as their natural tackiness wears away. Nothing stays sticky forever! However, this doesn't mean your sheeting is no longer effective— it's still 100% silicone, so all you have to do is secure the sheeting in place with the medical tape provided with your order, giving you extra use out of your sheeting!

Scar healing takes time— which means your scar treatments should also last a long time. Use these tips to get the most out of your silicone scar sheets and keep your scar from getting out of hand!

Made of 100% medical grade silicone, you can find Rejuvaskin Scar Fx Silicone Sheeting in wide variety of shapes & sizes (including 5 different breast incision shapes), ideal for just about any procedure!
