5 Winter Skin Care Tips

When winter comes along, your skin will have different needs than it did in the warmer months. Winter months bring in colder, drier air, which will affect the skin differently than warmer, more humid air. Cold, dry air can leave your skin itchy, red, and irritated and diminish your skin’s natural moisture. There’s no escape from winter conditions unless you live in the tropics, so rather than suffering dry, itchy skin this winter, try our favorite winter skincare tips instead.

Winter Skincare Tip #1: Try a Humidifier

If you live in a drier climate, winter can be extra harsh on the skin and cause dryness and itching. Using a humidifier in your home or office will add moisture to dry winter air. Invest in a humidifier for the winter months to keep your skin feeling hydrated.

Winter Skincare Tip #2: Turn Down the Temps

Whether you like a hot shower or a warm fire during winter, hot temperatures can make your skin exponentially drier. As much as you want to stay warm and cozy during these cold months, turning down the heat during the winter can do wonders for your skin. Chances are if your skin is red from the water temperature, it’s too hot for your skin!

Winter Skincare Tip #3: Change Up Your Cleansers

During winter it’s important to switch out the products you used in spring and summer for heavier, more hydrating skincare products, including your cleansers. Rather than using the floral-scented gel cleanser you did in the summer, opt for a cream-based body wash and facial cleanser. Rejuvaskin’s Anti-Pollution Cleanser is a great option because it combats particulate matter found in the air caused by pollution and free radicals. This particulate matter can strip your skin’s moisture and cause it to look dull and dehydrated. Rejuvaskin’s Anti-Pollution Cleanser can help replenish your skin’s natural moisture during the winter months.

Winter Skincare Tip #4: Upgrade Your Moisturizer

Dry winter air means it’s perfectly acceptable—and necessary—to slather thick moisturizer on both your body and face morning and night. Consider keeping a travel-sized lotion fortified with shea or cocoa butter on hand so you can moisturize on the go during holiday travel.

Winter Skincare Tip #5: Drink Extra Water

For many people, it’s easier to drink enough water when it’s warm out, so they end up skimping on hydration during the winter months. This is a huge no-no! Hydrating the inside of your body will directly show on the outside by making skin look dewy and young.

Changing up your winter skincare routine this season will only benefit you in the long run.  So, make sure to use winter skincare products that protect your skin from harsh dry air and frigid climates. We guarantee that your skin will thank you come spring!
