Frequently Asked Questions
What procedures are included in a mommy makeover?
And are all procedures done in one session?
Typically, all procedures are done in one go— but occasionally (depending on the number and severity of the patient’s specific procedures) it may need to be split into several sessions.
As far as which particular procedures are included depends on the needs of the patient: the most common include tummy tuck, liposuction, and some sort of breast procedure, but can also include labiaplasty, butt lift, thigh lift, fat transfers, etc.
How long should I wear compression garments after a mommy makeover?
And can I use my silicone scar products alongside my compression garments?
After a mommy makeover, you will likely need a few different types of compression garments (for areas like the breasts, stomach, sometimes thighs or arms) to help the healing process and let your body settle into its new shape.
Typically, you will need to wear these for about 6-8 weeks, depending on your surgeon's recommendation. Silicone scar products should be applied only after the incisions have fully closed, usually 2 to 4 weeks post-surgery, and can often be used in tandem with compression garments if approved by your doctor. Always follow your surgeon’s advice regarding timing and use of both treatments.
What do mommy makeover scars look like?
These will vary by procedure. The appearance of each of these can be improved with the use of our silicone Scar Heal Kit, designed to smooth & flatten your scars.
Tummy Tuck scars are typically a straight, horizontal line, at the bottom of the abdomen.
Breast Procedures use a wide range of incisions, though the 2 most common are Lollipop (around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease) and Anchor (around the areola, vertically down to the breast fold, and along the breast crease.)
Liposuction scars tend to be much smaller, found at the entry points for the cannula, and are usually less than a centimeter in length.
Which Scar Heal Kit For Breasts should I use for my mommy makeover scars?
This will largely depend on the incision your surgeon used. Our breast sheeting comes in 5 different shapes, designed to fit over most common incisions used for breast procedures— you can check out all the different shapes here, and be sure to ask your doctor about which incision they’ll be using for your procedure.
What is the recovery time for a mommy makeover?
Most patients are back to light activities in just 2-3 weeks, with full activity—like exercise—typically resuming by 6-8 weeks. While it can take up to 6 months to see the final results, sticking closely to your surgeon’s aftercare plan will help you recover more smoothly and quickly, so you can enjoy your new look sooner!
When can I start using silicone on my scars?
You must wait until your wound is fully closed before starting use of your silicone scar products, when your wound has begun the “maturation phase” of scar healing. In short, this means your wound is no longer oozing, bleeding, scabbing, etc, which usually takes a few weeks. However if in doubt, we also suggest consulting your doctor to see if it’s time for scar treatment.
