Easy Ways to Care for Your Skin this Winter

Your skin is pretty important. In the spirit of Thanksgiving we want to give you a few ways you can care for your skin as we approach winter. It's a great way to say thank you to one of your most important features.

Your skin is pretty important. Think about it. It helps protect you from everything outside your body that is trying to get in. It regulates your body鈥檚 temperature keeping you at a toasty 98.6F. It鈥檚 constantly reforming itself and growing to adapt to your environment. It鈥檚 your largest organ. It has been with you for almost your whole life. It鈥檚 a huge part of what makes you, you. Don鈥檛 you think it鈥檚 time you said thanks? In the spirit of Thanksgiving we want to give you a few ways you can care for your skin as we approach winter. It's a great way to say thank you to one of your most important features.

Keep your skin moisturized.

One of the keys to healthy skin through the winter months is to make sure it stays hydrated. Find a good moisturizer that helps keep your skin feeling fresh and well-watered. We recommend finding a thick cream and retire your lotions until warmer weather. Also, it鈥檚 not just about what goes on your skin, but also the air around it. Invest in a humidifier to keep moisture in the air while you crank the heat up inside the house.

Go gentle with your cleansers.

If you find that your skin feels dry or stretched after your cleansing routine, you may want to think about finding something a bit gentler. You may even find it helpful to use a little less soap overall. Remember, your skin should feel refreshed after cleansing, no damaged. Ingredients like ceramides and glycerin can help protect the skin鈥檚 moisture barrier.

It's time for a heat check.

Okay, we know how much those hot showers and baths feel after a frigid cold day, but they don鈥檛 do your skin any favors. Hot water evaporates quickly from the skin and pulls away moisture with it. Consider turning down the hot water just a bit or keep your bathroom door closed to maintain moisture in the air, allowing your skin to maintain its moisture barrier. It鈥檚 not just the hot water that can dry out your skin. Firing up the heater in your home and car can also create an atmosphere that draws moisture out of your skin. Be mindful of how it鈥檚 affecting your skin.

You still need sunscreen.

You don鈥檛 think about the sun so much when every inch of your body is covered by a scar, jacket, hat, or the like. However, it鈥檚 still important to make sure that you cover any exposed skin with SPF. Don鈥檛 forget it.

These are just a few ways you can take care of your skin during these colder months. Ensuring that it is moisturized, fresh, and healthy is a great way to show how thankful you are for all your skin does for you. Stay posted as we continue to share ways you can help keep your skin healthy this winter.
