In All, Scar Management

Sometimes, skincare companies fail to thoroughly explain the differences between their products. This can make it confusing for a customer to feel confident when selecting the right product. The product they hope will address all of their concerns. I think we’ve all been in a situation where we’re trying to find more answers in a product’s label than are clearly stated. We want assurance, as the customer, that we’re making the right choice. Rejuvaskin® and the Scar Heal® family of products understand that, and we want you to feel confident when you choose our products. After all, confidence is the key to everything… right?

Think about the last time you had a scar. Maybe you have one now that you would like to get rid of sooner rather than later. Or, maybe you know that you’re at risk for a scar due to an upcoming surgery or procedure. (Don’t forget that scars can be caused by a number of things ranging from acne, pregnancy, burns, injuries or surgeries.) What would be your first step?

Did you research your options? Talk to a doctor? Or just select the prettiest packaging and hope for the best? We bet the bottom line was that you simply wanted a product that works.

We have a few different options when it comes to scar management products including Scar Esthetique® Scar Creme and RejuvaSil Silicone Scar Gel. So, what is the difference between a scar gel and a scar cream? Good question, we’re glad you asked!

Scar Esthetique Scar Creme

Scar Cream is good for light surgical scars on the body and hyper-pigmented scars. It can be used by itself or part of a regimen with silicone sheeting as specified on the “how to” page. Our scar cream’s most important ingredient is silicone, in addition to 23 other total ingredients. These ingredients are specifically designed to target the hyper-pigmentation of scars. Included in those 23 carefully selected ingredients are antioxidants, polypeptides and botanicals. The full list of ingredients is listed on the Rejuvaskin website. Additionally, a massaging action also stimulates circulation to help remove excess collagen from the scar area.

RejuvaSil Silicone Scar Gel

Scar Gel is ideal for facial scars, and patients who aren’t great at remembering to use silicone sheeting correctly on a daily basis. Scar Gel is naturally hypoallergenic and since younger patients tend to have more sensitive skin, patients 12 and under find the gel a great option for them. Our scar gel also contains the highest concentration of silicone in our family of products, used to more dramatically reduce the height and size of a scar. Our Scar Gel also has the added benefits of Vitamin C, Squalane, and emu oil. Using Rejuvasil® means your product will dry more quickly. The formula goes on transparent and won’t flake or shed throughout the day. Added bonus? No weird scent here!
The great thing about both of these products is that it won’t hurt if they’re used interchangeably, in fact we have found that a regimen that encompasses all of our products yields the best results. However, it’s always good to know which product is intended for which purpose. The most important thing for both products is to use them as directed, because consistency in usage will drive the best results!

I’m 31 and my face is covered in deep round scars. What regimen is best for face?

Hi Brittany, thanks for the comment! It sounds like you are referring to atrophic scars, which are often caused by a lack of collagen. Most topical products don’t stimulate collagen production. However, Scar Esthetique Scar Crème (mentioned in the article) can help improve the overall appearance of your atrophic scars. Ingredients such as glucosamine are good for skin support structure and can help smooth the edges of atrophic scars. Also Vitamin C and E work together to help brighten the appearance of scars where there is marked hyperpigmentation. When it comes to your scars and your skin, your dermatologist knows best. Everyone’s skin is different, and he or she can point you in the right direction.
