October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as you’re probably already aware! For the entire month of October (and beyond), Rejuvaskin is getting involved in the lives of breast cancer patients and supporting them in a variety of ways. As a skincare company, we constantly hear from customers who have used products like our Skin Recovery Cream as a radiation burn cream during radiotherapy.
Unfortunately, many breast cancer patients struggle to maintain a work/life balance once treatment and appointments get thrown into the mix一 rightfully so!
What Happens To My Job If I Get Cancer?
Ultimately, it’s going to depend on where you work, what kind of job you have, and who you work for. If you work in a position that requires a modest amount of physical labor, for example, you may have a hard time performing the required duties once you start treatment. If, on the other hand, you have a remote, work-from-home position, you may be able to keep working without too much interruption.
While employers are not supposed to discriminate based on medical conditions, unfortunately, it does happen from time to time. In these cases, you can submit complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Can I Work If I Get Cancer?
There may be a variety of factors that determine whether or not you’re able to work during your treatment. Many patients do continue their careers as they undergo treatment, however, so odds are, you’ll be able to as well. Whichever path you choose, we urge you to put your health first, and let no one shame you for whatever kind of decision you. Each is valid.
For those who do continue working, there are various benefits involved. The top three reasons to work after being diagnosed with cancer are:
- It will allow you to better afford your treatment, but don’t do yourself any physical or emotional harm by working when you are unable.
- If you feel well enough, it will give you something to do and think about一 that isn’t your cancer.
- Working can help you maintain a level of normalcy and control over your life right now, even amidst the changing circumstances that cancer has initiated.
If your previous job was heavily reliant on physical strength, you may want to start looking for something easier on your body during the early stages of your treatment.

Unfortunately, not everyone receives the support they need to pay the bills, keep up a career, and manage their treatment schedule and symptoms all at once. That’s where Cancer and Careers comes in.
